Description
Andre Moreau hosts live coverage of Governor John Bel Edwards’ opening address to the 2021 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature on April 12, 2021. Prior to the speech, Moreau and Barry Erwin of the Council for a Better Louisiana (CABL) preview the major issues of the session. At the Southern University campus: Dr. Ray Belton, the chancellor and president of the Southern University System, welcomes everyone to the campus; Father Paul Yi of St. George Catholic Church in Baton Rouge leads a prayer; Brittany Jackson of Sharon Hills Elementary School in Baton Rouge sings the National Anthem; and State Representative Barbara Freiberg leads the Pledge of Allegiance. During his speech, Governor Edwards discusses: the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic; the ongoing recovery from Hurricane Laura and Hurricane Delta in southwest Louisiana; establishing the groundwork for a more resilient Louisiana; his state budget proposal; and his other legislative priorities. Following the speech, Moreau and Erwin analyze the Governor’s remarks.
