Description
This segment from the September 17, 2010, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features the first part of Charlie Whinham’s interview with Jimmy Taylor on his autobiography “The Fire Within.” Taylor, a native of Baton Rouge, played college football at LSU and professional football with the Green Bay Packers from 1958-1966 and the New Orleans Saints in their inaugural year in 1967. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1976. He discusses why he decided to write an autobiography, football as a game of contact, playing high school basketball at Baton Rouge High, his decision to play football at LSU, and his reaction to being drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 1958.
