This segment from the February 12, 2010, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Shauna Sanford’s interview with Sister Martha Ann Abshire, the U.S. Director of the Haiti Mission for the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady. Sister Martha Ann was in Haiti when the devastating earthquake hit the country on January 12, 2010. She discusses: her experience of the earthquake in the Haitian countryside; caring for earthquake victims at the mission’s clinic; her realization of the enormity of the devastation while traveling to Port-au-Prince; and the substandard living conditions of the victims. Sister Martha Ann also shares her photographs of the earthquake devastation from her trip.
