Description

This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from April 26, 1996, features Robert Collins, Jeff Duhe, and Arcie Chapa reporting on the preparations for the 10th Annual Festival International de Louisiane in Lafayette, a celebration of music and culture from the Francophone world. Chapa first reports on the history of the festival, including interviews with Herman Mhire and Phillipe Gustin, past presidents of the festival. Collins then interviews Katie Sunderman, the executive coordinator of the festival, who discusses their educational outreach programs and all of the events at the festival, including the musical performances. Collins also presents highlights of a past performance by Tabu Ley Rochereau, a band from Zaire, who will be performing at the festival. Next, Duhe profiles the Bubbas and Bubbettes, the volunteers who cook all of the food at the festival. He interviews Lorraine Guidry, the festival food organizer, and several of the Bubbas. Lastly, Collins presents highlights of the comments made by PBS President Ervin Duggan during his visit to LPB.
