Description
This segment from the December 18, 1992, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Arcie Chapa’s report on an environmental justice conference in New Orleans sponsored by the Southern Organizing Committee for Economic and Social Justice. Her report focuses on the conference’s tour of a sewerage treatment plant in New Orleans and the industrial plants along the Mississippi River. She interviews: Darryl Malek-Wiley, environmental policy consultant; Willie Fontenot, the environmental specialist with the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office; Francis Lambert of Tennessee; Tom Goldtooth of Minnesota; and Maby Velez of Puerto Rico. Robert Collins then conducts an in-studio interview with Willie Fontenot. He discusses the impact of the tour and the cancer alley label.
