Description

This segment from the January 14, 1983, episode of “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features a report on the death of Kenneth Womack, the president of the Deferred Compensation Corporation of Louisiana (DCCL), at a veteran’s hospital in Philadelphia due to cancer. After Womack’s mysterious disappearance from his Baton Rouge residence in February 1982, the FBI began an investigation into the financing and operation of his company, DCCL. This report includes highlights from a press conference given by United States Attorney Stanford Bardwell on the continuing investigation into DCCL, including former Governor Edwin Edward’s connection to Womack. At the time of his disappearance, Governor Edwards admitted to backing Womack’s business dealings with a $1.1 million loan guarantee. Host: Beth George
