Description

The second part of live coverage of the inauguration of Governor Edwin Edwards hosted by Beth Courtney and Ken Johnson from the State Capitol in Baton Rouge on March 12, 1984. Due to rainy weather, the ceremony was moved from the steps of the State Capitol to the chamber of the House of Representatives. This hour of coverage features highlights from the inauguration ceremony led by State Representative Joe Delpit, the newly elected Speaker Pro Temp. It includes: the swearing-in of the statewide elected officials by Louisiana Supreme Court Justice Jack Watson; the swearing-in of Lieutenant Governor Bobby Freeman by Judge Catherine “Kitty” Kimball; the inaugural address of Lieutenant Governor Freeman; the swearing-in of Governor Edwin Edwards in both English and French by his son, Stephen, and his brother, Marion, respectively; and the inaugural address of Governor Edwards.
