Description
The first part of live coverage of the inauguration of Governor Edwin Edwards hosted by Beth Courtney and Ken Johnson from the State Capitol in Baton Rouge on March 12, 1984. Due to rainy weather, the ceremony was moved from the steps of the State Capitol to the chamber of the House of Representatives. In addition to retrospectives on outgoing Governor Dave Treen and incoming Governor Edwin Edwards, this hour of coverage features highlights from the morning’s inaugural activities, including a memorial mass led by Archbishop Philip Hannan at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in honor of Edwards’ late brother, Nolan Edwards, and a performance by the Golden Band from Tigerland at the inaugural parade.
