Description

Jim Metcalf report on over 100 Louisiana lawmakers touring the devastation by Hurricane Camille to lower Plaquemines Parish. He states that everyone was flown by national guard planes to the naval station at Belle Chase, where they boarded buses at the fire station. The tour was formed by the joint legislative committee on hurricanes to drum up support for hurricane legislation in the upcoming session. An interview with the sub-chairman of the committee, Sammy Nunez, follows. He states that he was happy that so many legislators joined the tour, better than 2/3 of the legislature. He and Representative Patti, who was in charge of the other bus, heard many legislators say that they'd never seen mass destruction like this before. Nunez states that the committee will present several pieces of legislation to protect areas not only devastated in the past, but also to protect areas where this could happen in the future.
