Description
Oral history with congressman Jerry Huckaby. Conducted on January 7, 2009. In this interview, Huckaby discusses his early life in Minden before his career in public office, what influenced him to run for Congress, and the difficulties he faced being an unknown candidate in his first race for Congress against Otto Passman in 1976. He also talks about his campaigning tactics he used during the 1976 race, some of the highs and lows of his time in Congress, and how his past career with Western Electric helped him implement a tele-text system between nuclear power plants throughout the U.S. during the height of the Cold War. Part 1 of 2.
