Description

This segment from the 2014 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Kamryn Chauncy, a freshman at Benton High School. In 2007, Chauncy was diagnosed with leukemia. After receiving successful treatments for two years at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, she dedicated herself to raising money for the hospital. She led the effort to get the State of Louisiana to sell an official St. Jude license plate as a fundraiser. She also participates in an annual St. Jude telethon in Shreveport, collects aluminum can tabs to pay for treatments, and sponsors a Relay for Life team for the American Cancer Society. In addition to her fundraising activities, Chauncy is an excellent student and a flute player in the school band.
