Description
This segment from the 2014 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Caroline Beard, a seventh grade student at Alexandria Country Day School. As an infant, Beard was diagnosed with cancer in her retina. During her treatment, she lost her left eye. Despite these early challenges, Beard is an excellent student, a tutor, and a member of the Beta Club, dance team, and cheerleaders. She has also donated her artwork for fundraisers at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In 2005, Oprah Winfrey selected an ornament designed by Beard for St. Jude as one of her top 100 gifts for the year.
