This segment from the 2013 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Carissa Fruge, a senior at Hathaway High School in Jennings. During her four years of high school, Fruge has suffered from swine flu, a sciatic nerve injury, Reynaud’s syndrome, and fluid around her heart. Despite these physical ailments and missing several months from school during her freshman and senior years, Fruge has maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout high school. She is also a tireless volunteer in the community.
