This segment from the 2012 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Gabe Hilliard, a senior at Denham Springs High School. For three years, Hilliard battled Hodgkin’s lymphoma. After receiving an experimental drug, he is now cancer free. Despite missing time at school during his treatments, he maintained a 3.9 grade point average. He has served as a counselor at Cancer Services Camp Care, a week-long camp for children with cancer and their families. He also designed t-shirts to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and other cancer-related charities.
