Description
This segment from the 2011 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Charlton Jesse Boyd, a freshman at Loyola College Prep in Shreveport. While he was in the fourth grade, Boyd created a program called Books Out of Kindness, which has provided thousands of books for underprivileged elementary school children in the Shreveport area. In addition to raising thousands of dollars to fund the program, Boyd has also recruited classmates to read to preschool and kindergarten students at a nearby school. He also plays tennis and the violin.
