Description
This segment from the 2007 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Luke Richer, a senior at Elton High School. Richer is an honor roll student and a starter on the football team. He is also a volunteer firefighter with the Jefferson Davis Fire Department with training as a first responder and the certification to handle hazardous material spills. When Hurricane Rita threatened Elton, Richer helped evacuate residents, secure town property, supply food and water to evacuation shelters, and assisted FEMA and the Red Cross.
