This segment from the 2002 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Candace Kaufman, a senior at Salmen High School in Slidell. When Kaufman was three, she lost an eye and suffered brain damage in a car wreck caused by a drunk driver. Her mother and another passenger were also killed in the accident. Despite predictions that she would never progress beyond the second grade, Kaufman is graduating from high school. She also shares her story with her fellow students to show the danger of drunk driving. Hosts: Beth Courtney and Robert Rainer
