This segment from the 2001 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Matthew Johnston of Leesville, a fifth grade student at Beckwith Christian School in DeRidder. Johnston sustained a traumatic brain injury at birth, which causes him problems with his vision, motor skills, and learning. Despite these challenges, he works hard in the classroom, studies martial arts, plays drums and swims to improve his motor skills.
