This segment from the 2001 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Ashten Gilliam, a fifth grade student at Carencro Catholic School. After she was stricken with a rare disease that devastated her kidneys, Gilliam received a kidney from her father. Despite the side effects of the medicine she takes, she is an A student and participates in volleyball, basketball and softball.
