This segment from the 2000 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Tara Hinds, a junior at Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans. Hines has undergone 33 surgeries because of a congenital eye disorder and a heart problem. Despite her physical difficulties, she is an outstanding student, sings in four choirs and performs musical theater.
