This segment from the 2000 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Johnny Walker, a junior at John Ehret High School in Harvey. Walker has overcome his mother’s drug addiction and his own arrest on drug charges to become an outstanding student. Since his arrest, Walker has rededicated his life to getting an education and becoming the first person in his family to graduate from high school and attend college. He also volunteers at a local nursing home and works with the Youth Conservation Corps at Jean Lafitte National Historic Park and Preserve. Hosts: Ashley Barton and Beth Courtney
