Description
This segment from the 1999 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Katy Verlander, a fifth grade student at Audubon Elementary School in Baton Rouge. Verlander was born with a rare form of cancer that paralyzed her from the chest down. She is a straight-A student in the gifted program, an accomplished violinist, a peer tutor and a volunteer in the school library. She also helps raise money for Dreams Come True, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Easter Seals and the March of Dimes. Hosts: Ashley Barton and Beth Courtney
