An oral history interview conducted on October 11, 2007, with John C. Copes, III, an executive officer with Company C of the 125th Armored Engineer Battalion of the 14th Armored Division of the United States Army during World War II. He discusses: his military training; his deployment to France; fighting in Operation Nordwind in Alsace, France; breaching the German’s Siegfried Line; being shot in the leg; recuperating in the hospital; his return home from the war; and his division’s designation as the “Liberators.”
