An oral history interview conducted on November 11, 2017, with John D. Stills, Jr. of Shreveport, Louisiana. Stills served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He discusses: his ROTC training at Southern University; his two tours of duty in Vietnam; seeing his unit’s meteorologist killed in a rocket attack; the racial discrimination he faced in the Army and at home; the negative treatment he received for being a Vietnam veteran; the incidents that led to him earning three Bronze Stars; his work with veterans’ organizations; and his advice for young people interested in joining the military.
