Description

An oral history interview conducted on September 27, 2017, with Charles Stroud of St. Francisville, Louisiana. Stroud served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He discusses: his decision to volunteer; his training; arriving in Vietnam; his role as a machine gunner on missions in the jungle; the heavy load he carried; his promotion to squad leader; their work in setting up ambushes at night; being hit in the leg by a booby trap; his seven and a half months in the hospital; the chaos of the jungle missions; the private that carried him to the medevac helicopter; and waking up with gratitude every day because he is still alive.
