An oral history interview conducted on August 10, 2017, at the Vietnam Veterans of America Conference in New Orleans, with Joseph “Rosie” Rosato of New Orleans, Louisiana. Rosato served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He discusses: his training; his first time in a helicopter; his role as a door gunner on a helicopter; the first time he was shot at on a night mission; his experience of the 1972 Easter Offensive; his unit’s transfer to Da Nang; his difficulty in returning home and transitioning to civilian life; and living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
