This segment from the June 5, 2020, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Natasha Williams reporting on the reaction in Louisiana to the murder of George Floyd by police officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She first reports on a peaceful May 31st protest in downtown Baton Rouge organized by four teenagers. She interviews: Mia Spears, organizer; Colleen Temple, organizer; Noah Hawkins, organizer; and Myra Richardson, community organizer. Williams then interviews Eugene Collins, the president of the Baton Rouge chapter of the NAACP. He discusses the need to hold policy makers accountable and to reform police contracts.
