This segment from the May 8, 2020, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Andre Moreau and Natasha Williams reporting on the latest news on the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic in Louisiana. Moreau first reports on the week’s headlines, including highlights from Governor John Bel Edwards’ latest press conference with Dr. Alex Billioux of the Louisiana Department of Health. Next, Williams interviews State Representative Ted James, a COVID-19 survivor, who discusses his concerns about the resumption of the legislative session and his decision not to return to the State Capitol. Moreau then reports on the plans for phased reopenings of college and university campuses for the fall semester. He interviews: Thomas Galligan, interim president of the Louisiana State University System (LSU); Robyn Merrick, the vice president for external affairs for the Southern University System; and Dr. Jim Henderson, the president of the University of Louisiana System. Next, Williams interviews Marie Carney, who discusses her difficult experience with COVID-19. Lastly, Moreau interviews Wynne Newsham and Ted Newsham, who discuss their creation of WSH20 wristbands to remind people to wash their hands for 20 seconds and to support COVID-19-related causes.
