This segment from the March 13, 2020, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features the first part of Kevin Gautreaux’s report on the unique genetics of the Acadians. It focuses on the genetic mutation that makes congenital hearing loss three to six times more likely in Acadians. He interviews Dr. Fern Tsien, a genetics professor at the LSU Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in New Orleans, who discusses her research on deafness in Cajun families.
