Description

This segment from the January 12, 2018, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Andre Moreau’s report on Governor John Bel Edwards’ announcement of $600 million in federal funding for three infrastructure projects in Louisiana. The projects are: the widening of Interstate 10 in Baton Rouge from the Mississippi River Bridge to the 10/12 split; a new interchange on Interstate 10 at Loyola in Kenner to service the new terminal of the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport; and new access from Interstate 20 directly into Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier Parish. Moreau interviews Dr. Shawn Wilson, the secretary of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), who discusses the importance of these three projects and his support of an increase in the state gasoline tax to fund future transportation projects. Moreau also interviews State Representative Steve Carter and Scott Kirkpatrick, the executive director of Capital Region Industry for Sustainable Infrastructure Solutions (CRISIS). They discuss these three projects, the other projects needed in the Baton Rouge area, and the possibility of enacting a regional gasoline tax.
