This segment from the December 16, 2016, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Kevin Gautreaux’s report on the families still struggling to recover from the historic flooding in south Louisiana in August 2016. He interviews: Ashleigh Dickerson, a wife and mother of four, who is living in two hotel rooms with her family through FEMA’s hotel rental vouchers program; John Johnson, a flooded homeowner in Denham Springs who is living in a utility shed in his backyard; Mark Riley of the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP), who discusses the Restore Louisiana Task Force’s recommendations for using the first round of federal aid; and David Aguillard, the executive director of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, who discusses the 2,000 households receiving long-term assistance from his organization and the lack of available housing in the Baton Rouge area.
