Description
This segment from the July 8, 2016, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Gary Allen’s visit to a workshop for middle school and high school teachers at the Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge on the marine debris in the Gulf of Mexico. Allen reports that the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ (LDWF) Environmental Education Commission received a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to help train teachers to teach their students about watersheds and marine debris. He interviews: Dinah Maygarden of the UNO Pontchartrain Institute for Environmental Studies; Thomas Gresham, the Environmental Education Assistant Coordinator with LDWF; Diane Linstedt of the Louisiana Sea Grant; Heather Benton, a teacher at Holy Savior Menard Central High School in Alexandria; John Dupuis, a teacher at St. Thomas More High School in Lafayette; and Darlene Castelin, a teacher at Burns Middle School in Mobile, Alabama.
