This segment from the August 7, 2015, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Shauna Sanford’s report on the timeline for the availability of medical marijuana in Louisiana. Sanford reports that the Louisiana Legislature legalized medical marijuana in 1991, but did not pass a law to dispense it until 2015. She interviews Jacob Irving, who discusses living with spastic quadriplegia, the benefits of medical marijuana in treating his condition, and his frequent trips to Colorado to legally use medical marijuana. Sanford also interviews Commissioner Mike Strain of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, who discusses the steps that have to take place in order for medical marijuana to be available in Louisiana in the next two to three years.
