This segment from the November 30, 2012, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Sue Lincoln’s report on two lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of Louisiana’s School Choice Act, or school voucher program. Lincoln reports on both the lawsuit filed in federal court by the Tangipahoa Parish School Board as a part of their desegregation case, as well as a lawsuit filed in state court by the Louisiana Federation of Teachers, Louisiana Association of Educators, and the Louisiana School Boards Association. Her report also includes highlights of a rally held by supporters of the school voucher program. Lincoln interviews: Scott Richard, the president of the Louisiana School Boards Association; Tirany Howard, parent; Charles Patin, attorney for the Tangipahoa Parish School Board; Jimmy Faircloth, attorney for the State of Louisiana; Valerie Evans, the parent of a school voucher student; Steve Monaghan, the president of the Louisiana Federation of Teachers, and State Representative John Bel Edwards, a member of the House Education Committee.
