This segment from the November 16, 2012, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Sue Lincoln’s report on the ASPIRE program, or After School Program for Innovation and Respect for Education, a project-based learning math and science after school program for middle and high school students in Shreveport. She visits Fair Park High School in Shreveport as Dr. Brian Salvatore, a chemistry professor at LSU-Shreveport, and his LSU-Shreveport students help the Fair Park students to complete a project on rockets. Lincoln also visits Jennifer Jacobson’s biology class at Booker T. Washington High School in Shreveport as she incorporates an ASPIRE project on hatching duck eggs into her regular curriculum. Lincoln interviews: Dr. Brian Salvatore, the founder of ASPIRE; Cathy Bonds of the Fair Park High School Alumni Association; Deandre Washington, a sophomore at Booker T.
