This segment from the August 17, 2012, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s report on the Bayou Corne Sinkhole in Assumption Parish. This report touches on: the Department of Natural Resource’s conclusion that the sinkhole was caused by an abandoned well owned by the Texas Brine Company; the indefinite mandatory evacuation of 150 homes in the area; and the growing concerns over the close proximity of the sinkhole to a salt cavern housing liquid butane.
