This segment from the May 27, 2011, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Jeremy Alford’s report on one of the unintended consequences of the 2010 BP Oil Spill, the discovery of an oil-eating microbe in the Gulf of Mexico. Alford interviews Dr. Terry Hazen, a microbial ecologist at the Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory in California, about his discovery of the microbe and its implications for the Gulf’s ecosystem.
