This segment from the April 22, 2011, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Jeremy Alford’s report on a Congressional field hearing held by the House Natural Resources Committee in Houma for an update on the area’s recovery from the BP Oil Spill. It includes highlights from testimony given by: Ryan Lambert of Cajun Fishing Adventures on the state of fisheries; Brenda Dardar Robichaux on the effect of the spill on the United Houma Nation; and Kim Chauvin of the Mariah Jade Shrimp Company on the difficult claims process. This report also includes comments by Congressman John Fleming of Louisiana and Congressman Steve Southerland of Florida on the federal government’s efforts to stop offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as Congressman Charles Boustany of Louisiana discussing the resiliency of Gulf Coast residents.
