This segment from the April 8, 2011, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Jeremy Alford’s preview of legislation related to the BP Oil Spill at the upcoming 2011 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. Alford talks to Garret Graves of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority about his support of legislation inserting local and parish officials into the state’s command structure during an emergency, the need for money to rebuild the state’s oyster beds, and the need to update the state’s coastal master plan. He also interviews State Representative Gordon Dove, the chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, about his support of involving local officials in the state’s emergency management and his hope that Congress will allocate BP fine money to coastal restoration efforts.
