This segment from the January 8, 2010, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s story on healthy weight management. Whinham interviews Chad Soileau, who has lost 264 pounds in three years. Soileau discusses his decision to start losing weight, his successful gastric bypass surgery, his commitment to eating a healthier diet and exercising more, setting goals for himself, competing in triathlons, and his advice for people who are trying to lose weight. Whinham also speaks to Dr. Valerie Myers, a behavioral scientist with the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, who discusses the elements of a successful weight loss program, including increasing physical activity and keeping a food diary, and Pennington’s available programs and studies on obesity and weight management.
