Description

This segment from the November 27, 2009, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s visit to the DeQuincy Railroad Museum, a restored Mission Revival train depot built in 1923. He talks to several retired railroad workers, including Albert Clifton, Fred Fluitt, and Lola Mitchell, about their jobs with the railroads. Whinham also speaks to Gary Cooper, the curator of the DeQuincy Railroad Museum, about DeQuincy’s position at the intersection of the Kansas City Southern Railway and the Missouri Pacific Railroad (now known as the Union Pacific Railway). Whinham then talks to Lauretta Fluitt, a museum board member, about the restoration of the train depot. Lastly, Whinham interviews Mayor Lawrence Henagan about the importance of the annual Louisiana Railroad Days Festival to DeQuincy. This story is a part of the “Louisiana Railways” series.
