This segment from the July 24, 2009, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Liz Barnes’s visit to two of the sites at the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. During her visit to the Barataria Preserve located outside of Marrero, park ranger Allyn Rodriguez leads a tour describing the ecological history of the area. She also discusses the programs offered at the park, including the Delta Music Jam, and the importance of preserving the land and culture of the region for future generations. At the Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center in Thibodaux, Barnes talks to volunteer Hamlin Landry and painter Delores Legendre about their role in preserving the fading Acadian culture of the region.
