This segment from the December 5, 2008, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Donna LaFleur’s interview with Slidell native Major Meredith Brown of the United States Marine Corps on her work with an engagement program for women in the Anbar Province of Iraq. Major Brown discusses her initial interest in the program, finding common ground with the Iraqi women by discussing their families, the importance of working with interpreters to help navigate cultural differences, working to develop the Women’s Affair Committee of the Provincial Council, and her plans to distribute dairy cows and eventually build a dairy factory run only by Iraqi women.
