This segment from the November 14, 2008, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Donna LaFleur’s interview with Shreveport native and children’s book author William Joyce, the recipient of the 2008 Louisiana Writer’s Award at the Louisiana Book Festival. Some of his works include “Rolie Polie Olie,” “The Leaf Man and the Brave Good Bugs,” and “Dinosaur Bob.” Joyce discusses his surprise at winning the award, his desire to stay in Louisiana, the influence of Louisiana and its people on his work, being inspired by reading “Where the Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak when he was a child, and the importance of parents reading books to their children.
