This segment from the November 14, 2008, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features WWL reporter Bill Capo accompanying a group of 102 World War II veterans on their trip to visit the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., as a part of the Louisiana Honor Air program. Capo follows the veterans as they board the plane in Baton Rouge with a Marine honor guard, receive a hero’s welcome at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., greet General Colin Powell at the Memorial, and recount their experiences of the war. The mission of Louisiana Honor Air, which is headquartered in Lafayette, is to send every Louisiana World War II veteran on a one-day trip to visit the memorial built in their honor.
