Description
This segment from the September 19, 2008, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham visiting southwest Louisiana to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Ike, which devastated the recovery efforts made by residents in the three years following Hurricane Rita. In Lake Charles, he talks to Mayor Randy Roach about the flooding in his city and the need for a comprehensive drainage plan. In Cameron Parish, he tours the damage sustained by three churches with Father Joseph McGrath, including the missing caskets from the cemeteries. He also speaks to Governor Bobby Jindal, who was visiting Cameron Parish, about the overall damage caused by Hurricane Ike in the state and the need for further flood protections.
