Description

This segment from the December 16, 2005, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s visit to Cameron Parish three months after Hurricane Rita. Whinham tours the damage in the town of Cameron with Cameron Parish Sheriff Theos Duhon and meets with homeowners Darwin Guillot and Charles Racca as they work to rebuild their homes. He also interviews Drew Sachs, a consultant with James Lee Witt Associates in Washington, D.C., who discusses his recent presentation before the Louisiana Recovery Authority about the possibility of rebuilding coastal communities, like Cameron, further inland in order to avoid future disasters. Whinham then asks Duhon, Racca, and Congressman Charles Boustany about their responses to Sachs’ suggestion of not rebuilding the town of Cameron in its current location. Hosts: Robyn Ekings and Charlie Whinham
