This segment from the May 8, 1998, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Diana Baker’s report on a group of volunteers in New Orleans building a replica of a Higgins Boat, the landing craft that were built by Higgins Industries in New Orleans and used by the United States military during World War II. She interviews: Stephen Ambrose, historian; Jerry Strahan, the author of a book about Andrew Jackson Higgins; Graham Haddock, a designer for Higgins Industries; Richard McDerby, the instructor for the Higgins Boat School; and Jimmy Duckworth, a reservist with the United States Coast Guard and the leader of the effort to build the boat replica.
