This segment from the April 3, 1998, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Jeff Duhe reporting on the second week of the 1998 Special Session of the Louisiana Legislature. These stories include: an interview with Louisiana Supreme Court Justice Kitty Kimball on the new children’s book “You Are Sunshine”; an interview with State Representative Randy Wiggins on a bill raising the age for playing video poker and the lottery to age 21; an interview with State Representative Juba Diez, chairman of the House Transportation Committee, on a bill restructuring the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD); an interview with Fred Skelton of the Louisiana Federation of Teachers on a bill extending the school day to 6 hours; an interview with State Senator Tom Greene, the chairman of the Senate Education Committee, on teacher pay raises; and an interview with State Representative Charles McDonald, the chairman of the House Education Committee, on a bill expanding the eligibility for the TOPS Scholarship program. Duhe then interviews State Representative Steve Windhorst and State Senator Ken Hollis, who discuss their differing views on the Harrah’s contract with the state to operate the land-based casino in New Orleans.
