Description
This segment from the January 27, 1995, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Jeff Duhe’s report on the popularity of Cajun culture and the reawakening of Cajun pride in the Acadiana region of Louisiana. He visits several Cajun tourist attractions and cultural traditions, including: a taping of the “Rendez-vous des Cajuns” radio show in Eunice; an Atchafalaya Swamp Tour in Henderson; the Courir de Mardi Gras celebration in Mamou; and Vermilionville, the living history museum in Lafayette. He interviews: Marc Savoy, Cajun accordion maker in Eunice; Dr. Barry Ancelet, writer and folklorist at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette; and Curtis Allemond and Geraldine Allemond, swamp tour operators. Host Robert Collins then conducts an in-studio interview with Warren Perrin, the new president of CODOFIL, the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana. He discusses the efforts to preserve Cajun culture and the French language in the state.
